We are excited to announce that we have designed an online (virtual) experience where you can participate however best suits your needs, regardless of geographic location or schedule. We have created the Ayni Fall Training Semester as a way to equip social change leaders and workers with the tools to strengthen their organizations and increase their strategic capacity.

There will be 3 different series (or topics) that you can complete as part of the curriculum. Each series will be comprised of 3 modules that you can take either sequentially with a cohort (one module a week on the same day and time) or broken up over a period of 1 month (whenever you have time and availability). This new structure gives you the freedom to chose when and where to access the Ayni Semester content to best ensure that you complete the Series.

Movement Ecology Series

While many of us have tried to create the conditions for social movements where there is collaboration across groups and organizations, we believe that collaboration can only happen when we are clear on the differences between the strategies that live in them. This means that we can only have ecological thinking/action in social change if we know what makes the parts of the movement different in relation to one another.

We call these multiple strategies Foundational Theories of Change and we believe that the key to the power that many of us are working hard to harness is found in their collaboration.

In this Series we will dive into the strengths and weakness of each Foundational Theory of Change, and provide answers to some of the common questions that come up when we’ve previously shared the framework:

  • Which Foundational Theory of Change do I spend most of my time working in?
  • What is the role of each Theory of Change within the context of the larger movement?
  • How can we relate and support other Foundational Theories of Change?
  • How can we build a culture of interdependence and embrace multi-strategic movements?

Seasons of Leadership Series

In our experience of social change work, there are times when we are externally focused and there is energy to do lots of things. And, on the other hand, there are times when we are internally focused, where we seem dormant to the outside world and our energy is focused internally as opposed to externally.

We believe that each stage in this cycle has a purpose, gift, and limits that can be applied to our lives, leadership, organizations, and movements. In this Series we dive into our leadership and organizational seasons specifically, and provide answers to some of the common questions that come up when we’ve previously shared the framework:

  • What do seasons look like in my leadership? What should I be doing and how can I get support?
  • How can we integrate seasonality into our work and lives? What are some next steps I can take?
  • What should we do if I am in one season and my organization is in another?

Introduction to Movement Building Series

The Introduction to Movement Building Course is an anthology series comprised of 3 introductory modules to 3 different frameworks; The Movement Breakthrough, Movement Ecology, and Seasons of Leadership.

The Movement Breakthrough is a framework for social change leaders to understand the different vehicles that are at play in social change work and how they interrelate with one another. This concept allows us to explore and analyze the contradictions and tensions between these different vehicles and how we conflate their issues in different ways. Specifically, these tensions are reflected between individuals and organizations, and organizations and movements. The Movement Breakthrough also helps us understand the different scales and levels at which social change happens and the journey social change makers embark on in order to create a difference in their respective contexts and levels.

Movement Ecology, on the other hand, will support you in understanding the many different strategies that arise when we are faced with creating social change. We call these multiple strategies Foundational Theories of Change and we believe that the key to power that many of us are working hard to harness is found in their collaboration.

Lastly, Seasons of Leadership is about the cyclical patterns that exist in our leadership and social movement organizations. Seasons and cycles help us to understand, appreciate, and protect the ebbs and flows that occur throughout our time in this work. By knowing, understanding, and protecting our seasons we do the right thing at the right time, and increase the strategic capacity of ourselves and the organizations we belong to.

We have been inspired by the many models of pricing by scale and gift economies. Please take a few minutes to assess the right tier that you belong to according to our system.

There are two types of tiers. To determine which of the two tiers to look at, please decide: are you paying out of pocket or are you being sponsored by an organization?

Individual Pricing Tiers

If you are paying out of pocket please review the following INDIVIDUAL pricing tiers and read in detail the multiple qualifying factors.

Please review the Individual Pricing Tiers Guide page to find more details and read more indicators. You can also find the individual scholarship form there.

Organizational Pricing Tiers

If you are being sponsored by an organization please review the following ORGANIZATIONAL pricing tiers and read in detail the multiple qualifying factors.

Please refer to our Organizational Pricing Tiers page for more detailed information.

When enrolling into this series, you are agreeing to abide by Ayni School’s Student Guidelines below.

  • Be respectful – Because of the online nature of the school, we might not know each other, where we are coming from, have different perspectives, backgrounds, beliefs, etc. Because of this, it can be really easy to misinterpret each other. We ask that participants be respectful of each other (and of the trainers) and the experiences that we each have.
  • Be present – Please turn on your camera as much as possible to improve the interactive nature of the training. It makes a big difference in the dynamic of the school if we are able to see each other and our reactions.
  • Support the School – We hold the expectation that you are not sharing links (or materials) to the modules with others who have not registered for the Semester and are abiding honestly by our pricing tiers to the best of your ability.
  • Recordings of the session will not be made available to participants. If you cannot attend a session, we recommend you attend it at another date and time. Supplemental material and slides will be provided and if you would like to experience a module again, you can always repeat before the Semester is over.
  • Honor our time together – There will be breaks that are scheduled during the length of a module, please wait for them as best you can. We also ask that you mute your microphone on Zoom while you are not talking and to write any pressing questions on the chat of the Zoom room so as to not interrupt the trainers.

If you’re interested in attending cohorts in two Series, we are excited to offer you this option! You will be able to attend Movement Ecology and Seasons of Leadership. You can purchase our “Two Series” package here. Once you register, you can then choose which Series and dates/times work best for you.
