This Fall Semester, you can learn
as much as you want about Movement Ecology!

What is the purpose of Movement Ecology?

Our Movement Ecology offerings will support you in understanding the many different strategies that arise when we are faced with creating social change.

While many of us have tried to create the conditions for social movements where there is collaboration across groups and organizations, we believe that collaboration can only happen when we are clear on the differences between the strategies that live in them. This means that we can only have ecological thinking, or action in social change, if we know what makes the parts of the movement different in relation to one another.

We call these multiple strategies Foundational Theories of Change, and we believe that the key to power that many of us are working hard to harness is found in their collaboration.

What will I learn during each module?

In each Module, participants will join other leaders and activists from different social movements, reflect on the concepts, and engage in practical exercises to use the frameworks in their individual work and current organizational context.

This Fall Semester, we are offering the following 3 Modules on Movement Ecology:

Please note: In order to attend Module 1, you must watch an introductory video on Movement Ecology, which we will provide when you enroll in the first Module.

If you want to attend more than 1 module, you must take them in order. In other words, Module 1 is required to attend Module 2, and Modules 1 and 2 are required to attend Module 3.

Enrollment Options

Attend all 3 Modules through a weekly Cohort experience. You will be attending each module alongside the same group of participants for the entire cohort. Through the semester we will be hosting two separate cohorts, occurring at different days of the week and times.

How can this training support me if I attended a Movement Ecology Training before?

Within our in person trainings, there are many concepts covered and Movement Ecology is one of them. This theory is usually covered in a few hours where participants receive a broad introductory understanding to the concept, including a small mapping exercise.

During the Fall Training Semester, we are expanding that short introduction into an in-depth experience (across 3 modules) where we cover some new frameworks, including:

  1. A new philosophy and set of principles on mapping our ecologies that have not been presented in past trainings.
  2. The release of new online tools and assignments for ecology mapping that participants can utilize and integrate within their personal work and organizations after the cohort.
  3. A Theory of Change Assessment, with a series of questions made to provide leaders and activists with a deeper understanding of which theory change they are dominant in.

The content of the Movement Ecology Series is part of a larger set of concepts that are in our Social Movement Course, which is an 11 module self-paced course that you can learn more about here.

More Information

At the Ayni Institute we are committed to providing high quality trainings that are accessible and support social change leaders, organizations, and movements dedicated to building a more reciprocal world.

We have been inspired by the many models of pricing by scale and gift economies. Please take a few minutes to assess the right tier that you belong to according to our system.

There are two types of tiers. To determine which of the two tiers to look at, please decide: are you paying out of pocket or are you being sponsored by an organization?

Individual Pricing Tiers

If you are paying out of pocket please review the following INDIVIDUAL pricing tiers and read in detail the multiple qualifying factors.

Please review the Individual Pricing Tiers Guide page to find more details and read more indicators. You can also find the individual scholarship form there.

Organizational Pricing Tiers

If you are being sponsored by an organization please review the following ORGANIZATIONAL pricing tiers and read in detail the multiple qualifying factors.

Please refer to our Organizational Pricing Tiers page for more detailed information.

When enrolling into this series, you are agreeing to abide by Ayni School’s Student Guidelines below.

  • Be respectful – Because of the online nature of the school, we might not know each other, where we are coming from, have different perspectives, backgrounds, beliefs, etc. Because of this, it can be really easy to misinterpret each other. We ask that participants be respectful of each other (and of the trainers) and the experiences that we each have.
  • Be present – Please turn on your camera as much as possible to improve the interactive nature of the training. It makes a big difference in the dynamic of the school if we are able to see each other and our reactions.
  • Support the School – We hold the expectation that you are not sharing links (or materials) to the modules with others who have not registered for the Semester and are abiding honestly by our pricing tiers to the best of your ability.
  • Recordings of the session will not be made available to participants. If you cannot attend a session, we recommend you attend it at another date and time. Supplemental material and slides will be provided and if you would like to experience a module again, you can always repeat before the Semester is over.
  • Honor our time together – There will be breaks that are scheduled during the length of a module, please wait for them as best you can. We also ask that you mute your microphone on Zoom while you are not talking and to write any pressing questions on the chat of the Zoom room so as to not interrupt the trainers.

If you’re interested in attending cohorts in two Series, we are excited to offer you this option for Movement Ecology and Seasons of Leadership. Purchase our “Two Series” package here. Once you register, you can then choose which Series and dates/times work best for you.

Thanks to Galaxy Gives and Just Impact, we are excited to provide Galaxy Gives Fellows and Just Impact Grantees complimentary access to our Ayni School Fall Semester and all Ayni School Courses.
