Over the last 10 years, we at Ayni have trained and coached leaders and activists from hundreds of different organizations. Throughout this time, we have also done research and grown in our capacity as leaders committed to social change for a lifetime. These four workshops will be on advanced themes in leadership and cultural analysis that speak to the constraints of what it means to be part of a lifetime of social change work.

A Lifetime of Social Change

June 1st, 2023
6:00pm EST - 8:30pm EST

Many of us start this great path of consciousness and justice by either joining a cause in high school, or by joining an organization because we are directly impacted by an issue, or because we see a great injustice and rush to get involved and do something about it.

In that process, we become more engaged and develop a new understanding of the world, and of life itself. We begin to get angry at so many injustices, to give our time to so many campaigns, and develop a community of like-minded people. We learn a lot of new terminology and some of us even begin to work full-time and learn the craft of community organizing, political negotiation, mass protest, personal transformation, or the alternative economy.

In that journey, there is a moment where we are confronted with either accepting that this is the path for the rest our lives, or not. We ask ourselves, “Is my vocation truly social change?” This is definitely a difficult process to undertake, but very important for the movement.

We need people that are committed to a lifetime of social change, that can see themselves being elders in the movements, that can see themselves as part of a lifetime of contribution. But this jump must be done collectively – the questions of support, economics, family, specialization, ethics, organizations, and political home necessitate a group of like-minded individuals. This workshop shares:

  • An understanding of what it means to commit to living a life of social change
  • A framework for the kind of leadership we need to cultivate as lifers in social change
  • Learning about the vision and identity of Community Workers
  • The role of traditions (political or spiritual homes) in the development and support of lifers

Who is this session for?

  • You are exploring a lifetime of social change
  • You are already committed to the journey and want to develop a stronger practice
  • You want to build a community of lifers

Below is the Rooted Leadership Series Calendar

When enrolling into this series, you are agreeing to abide by Ayni School’s Student Guidelines below.

  • Be respectful – Because of the online nature of the school, we might not know each other, where we are coming from, have different perspectives, backgrounds, beliefs, etc. Because of this, it can be really easy to misinterpret each other. We ask that participants be respectful of each other (and of the trainers) and the experiences that we each have.
  • Be present – Please turn on your camera as much as possible to improve the interactive nature of the training. It makes a big difference in the dynamic of the school if we are able to see each other and our reactions.
  • Support the School – We hold the expectation that you are not sharing links (or materials) to the modules with others who have not registered for the Semester and are abiding honestly by our pricing tiers to the best of your ability.
  • Recordings of the session will not be made available to participants. If you cannot attend a session, we recommend you attend it at another date and time. Supplemental material and slides will be provided and if you would like to experience a module again, you can always repeat before the Semester is over.
  • Honor our time together – There will be breaks that are scheduled during the length of a module, please wait for them as best you can. We also ask that you mute your microphone on Zoom while you are not talking and to write any pressing questions on the chat of the Zoom room so as to not interrupt the trainers.

At the Ayni Institute we are committed to providing high quality trainings that are accessible and support social change leaders, organizations, and movements dedicated to building a more reciprocal world.

We have been inspired by the many models of pricing by scale and gift economies. Please take a few minutes to assess the right tier that you belong to according to our system.

There are two types of tiers. To determine which of the two tiers to look at, please decide: are you paying out of pocket or are you being sponsored by an organization?
